After a decade, Kalayaan College has built a culture of participation and enthusiasm from its organizations. Last November 30, the school kicked off its Foundation Week celebration which lasted until December 4. Headed by the Kalayaan Student Council, orgs like K.O. (Kalay Otaku), KUJ (Kalayaan Union of Journalists), Unbound, DPAD (Development Program of Arts and Design), the Table Tennis Varsity Team, and the Outdoors Club headlined the Foundation week with their packed activity booths and made the 5-day event possible.

All of us experience “firsts” at everything. For example: a first kiss, a first fight, and the first year in school, amongst others. Here in Kalayaan College, I experienced a unique first: my first fresh meet.

Diana Aviado isn’t your typical student body president. Woven from a different cloth, this UP transferee didn’t even envision being in this position when she first got here.

Kalayaan College celebrated their 10th anniversary this year, and as I look back at my college days here, I can’t help but sigh at how fast time flew.  I never thought that a small, but great school would mold me into the person that I am now and teach me the journey of life.

Few realize that many of the rights and social conveniences that modern Western states and their citizens now enjoy are a product of two things: long, hard struggle, as well as a popular momentum that rendered their implementation inevitable. Inalienable rights—the cornerstone of modern human rights—is one of these. Emancipation is another. Women’s suffrage. Unionization. The freedom to assembly. These are things that have been bought and paid for in blood.

Mabuhay readers! This is Rex, your friendly-neighborhood librarian, at your service.  In my first appearance in our newsletter, I’m going to answer a question that I hope everyone has asked before writing a paper.

     Dear RexLibris,
What is plagiarism? What can I do to avoid being labeled a plagiarist?

The Blue Team displayed one of the more dominant performances in SABAK history as they began their bid for back-to-back championships in the 2010-11 2nd Semester SABAK Tournament. The lopsided victory, with a final score of 78-36, had the Topacio-led attack of the Blue  Team running on all cylinders against the luckless Black Team.

So many complexities but I guess that's what makes life interesting."
